The Cayman Islands Conference Solid Rock Ministry was formally organized as a Seventh-day Adventist Company on Saturday, January 27, 2018, in a brief ceremony attended by approximately forty of its members. Pastor Shion O’Connor, President of the Conference, presided over the formal ceremony along with the other two administrators for the Conference, Pastor Reinaldo Dracket and Elder John Wesley. Commenting on his delight with the growth of the Solid Rock Ministry and its newly established “Company” status, Pastor O’Connor said: “This ministry was strategically designed to reach a demographic in the Cayman Islands that we do not see much in our congregations.” Continuing, Pastor O’Connor said: “We have seen very impressive growth with a total baptism of 16 persons since the ministry’s inception two years ago,” adding: “Along with six pioneer members who initiated the ministry, a regular group ranging between 30 to 50 persons worship each Sabbath.” With its organization as a company, the usual slate of officers has been appointed and the operations of the Company are fully established in line with the policies of the Seventh-Adventist Church. This brings to two the number of companies that are in place in the Cayman Islands Conference, the second being the flock on Little...

Savannah Street Meetings Attract Hundreds

Posted by on Feb 7, 2018 in News | Comments Off on Savannah Street Meetings Attract Hundreds

The Savannah street meeting brought out large numbers of residents in the area and from across Grand Cayman to enjoy the inspiring music and message at the final public gathering before the Experience the Power Empowerment Series that began on Sunday (Feb. 4, 2018). At the end of the evening, some 18 persons stepped forward to take a stand for Jesus Christ, following the stirring presentation by Pastor Vaughan Henry. This was the second in the series of street meetings, with the first at A L Thompson’s carpark in George Town, which was also well attended. The Savannah street meeting, at the corner of Jayson Avenue and Shamrock Road, opposite Savannah Meadows, served as a prelude to the Empowerment Series with Dr. Ramon Escalante, an international speaker out of Washington, DC, which is attracting large crowds at the Lions Centre. Pastor Escalante speaks every weeknight except Tuesdays, at 7:30 pm. The Savannah street meeting featured some of the best local gospel singers—a Praise Team led by Elder Joshua Lawrence, Melissa Smith, Sheldon Hylton, Courtney McCook, and Nardia Henry. Setting the stage for the evening, the Praise Team led with a medley of such classical gospel classics as “He is able,” “I know where I am going,” “He alone is worthy,” and more. Pastor Henry’s sermon focused on the Christian’s need to maintain a strong relationship and focus on Christ, assuring the audience that “God will never let you down.” The speaker said that no one should fall into the trap of feeling worthless, as God had come “to save the lost.” On the other hand, he said, it was sometimes necessary to humble ourselves to achieve “a breakthrough in our relationship with Christ.” During his appeal, Mrs. Nardia Henry sang the meditative “Keep me safe until the storm passes by,” as guests and church members made their way to the front for prayer. The keynote speaker for the “Empowerment Series” that begins this Sunday (February 4) at the Lions Centre on Grand Cayman is Dr. Ramon Escalante, a widely travelled motivational speaker currently based in Washington DC. Dr. Escalante will be speaking at the Lions Centre each night—except for Tuesdays—beginning at 7:30 pm, on the theme of Experience the Power. Musical presentations will be a special feature throughout the series. A mass choir drawn from among the 15 Adventist churches on Grand Cayman has been intensively rehearsing, along with worship teams and other groups and individual singers. Dr. Escalante, who has a particular passion for connecting youth with their spiritual core, is expected to speak on such topics as the “Power of New Beginnings,” the “Power of Good Health,” “Why do the Innocent Suffer,” and the “Power of Fighting the Good Battle of Faith.”  The series will end in March with a presentation on the “Power of Persistence,” with a focus on maintaining spiritual tone and quality in daily living. Dr.  Escalante, bilingual with a multi-cultural heritage, has served and shared his passion for positive spiritual growth in countries such as Honduras, Belize, and Costa Rica, and across the Caribbean, the United States and Mexico. “I enjoy bringing souls to Christ and lighting a spiritual fire in their hearts,” he said.  “I share a passion for working with the youth—to bring them into a more intimate relationship with Christ.” Commenting on the series of presentations, the head of the Adventist Church in the Cayman Islands, Pastor Shion O’Connor, said: “We are excited about this series of meetings because we believe it creates a glorious opportunity to save some lives and enrich others.” Continuing, Pastor O’Connor said: “The speaker is a very dynamic and experienced multi-cultural motivator. I am sure everyone who attends will be tremendously blessed. We invite the entire community to enjoy this amazing life-changing event.” To widen access to the evening’s presentations, members of Cayman’s Spanish community will be facilitated by an in-house interpreter, accessible on cells phones.  Spanish speakers wishing to take advantage of this service should bring ear phones with them.
