The Orion Club of Adventurers and Pathfinders ages 6-15 distributed hot soup and meals to shut-ins in the Bodden Town community on January 1, 2010. Thirteen yougnsters and their leaders distributed a total of 67 meals between Lower Valley and Pease Bay.
It has been a tradition for several years for the Club to do so around Christmas time, but this year we chose New Year’s day, because most of the shut-ins receive meals from other sources on Christmas Day, but not necessarily on New Year’s Day. This is the third year the Orion Club put on a concert called The Feast of Lights, at Christmas time and took up an offering to defray the cost of the meals.
This year over $300.00 were collected and members of the Bodden Town Seventh-day Adventist Church contributed the food and/or by prepared the meals while the children assisted with the sharing out and distirbution of the meals lst Firday. On their visits to members and non-members of the church, the children along with their leaders shared Chirstian literature together with the meals.
The children found it rewarding to help these community members and enjoyed taking time to pray with those they visited so much so that they plan to repeat their visits on a monthly basis realizing that these folk need to see other people. It was truly a joy to see the smiles on the faces of the shut-ins, says Club Director Carla McLaughlin.
